for those of us older than say, 30, if you're american, your christmas childhood memories probably includes a lot of holiday movies and tv show specials. a charlie brown christmas, it's a wonderful life, a christmas carol and one of my favorites, white christmas all started playing sometime before we got out of school making me SO anxious to get out for the holiday breaks - even though there was only a few weeks to go, christmas seemed SO far away. back in the day (i'm so old LOL) most of the holiday music was influenced by the great 50's jazz and that's where harry connick comes into play in my holiday play list. "what a night - a christmas album" has brand new christmas arrangements that are reminiscent of what i call great holiday jazz. from the opening song "it's the most wonderful time of the year" (one of my fav's) to the telling "christmas day" and "let there be peace on earth" to the "what are you doing new year's eve" (there's the song again...) the album reads like an old hollywood 50'smovie soundtrack starring bing, danny, rosemary, marilyn, grace and frank. may the christmas memories begin...
